Our Mission
The Volunteer Excellence Awards Program aims to recognize and celebrate the
invaluable contributions of South Asian volunteers to nonprofit organizations across the United
States.
This initiative will recognize existing volunteers, encourage others to participate in volunteer
activities, and raise awareness of lesser-known nonprofits doing remarkable work in various
fields. Board members, CEO/ founders, paid employees/ staff members are not eligible for the
awards.

Encourage Volunteerism
To inspire more people to get involved in volunteering by showcasing the positive impact volunteers have on communities.

To spotlight nonprofits that are making significant contributions to society but may not be widely recognized.
Who are we
Primary Sponsor: The Shah Happiness Foundation (SHF) is dedicated to enhancing health, education, and overall well-being in the communities where they live and work. By supporting causes such as early childhood education, healthcare and nutrition, education technology, vocational training, employment generation, and women empowerment, SHF aims to create a fundamental shift in individuals’ quality of life through leapfrogging ideas.
Partnering with organizations, SHF has positively impacted 30 million lives, served over 10 million meals, helped 5 million students, and created 350,000 jobs. Additionally, through a 1:1 employee donation matching program, SHF supports over 200 charities across the United States, driving initiatives in education, healthcare, livelihood, and nutrition to uplift local communities.

Program Organizer: The American South Asian Network (ASAN) is uniting young South Asians in the US. Since the launch in June 2024, ASAN has hosted 70+ in-person events across the US and reached more than 10,000 people – change makers, creators, entrepreneurs, executives, investors, philanthropists, and students. ASAN’s key initiatives include South Asian Spotlight, South Asian Business Expo, and SANGAM (University connect). ASANHub online community helps facilitate interactions, in addition to in-person events.

Are religious organizations eligible?
Yes, if their work/ project they are applying for, is non-religious.
Who is not eligible?
Political organizations. Also, Board members, CEO/ Founders/ co-founders, paid employees/ staff members are not eligible for the awards.
Our Non-profit serves outside the US, Are we eligible?
Unfortunately, not for this iteration of the awards. Fingers crossed.
Can nonprofits submit multiple nominations?
Yes, one application per activity/ project is allowed.
What happens after nomination?
Finalists are reviewed & winners are announced in September 2025
